• David says... So far, I've seen about three or four large firms cutting thousands of jobs each I'm hoping for a good year but the signs are, in the UK at least, that it is going to be a really really tough year.

David is convinced... It is IMPOSSIBLE to be male and like the film Mama Mia. They are mutually exclusive.

David thinks... It is utterly irritating when you want to purchase something online and the site insists you set up an account to do so. I JUST WANT TO BUY SOMETHING!

• dewolfe says... I also hate the sites that once you've gone through all that, they freeze on the 'go to purchase' section and you never get your order though I'm sure they get your details!

• Graham says... I agree, loads of hassle and another username and password to remember. Imagine you went into the greengrocer to buy a bag of potatoes and the grocer asked you to fill out a membership form before you could pay for them. Why do online retailers get away with this obstacle to a sale?

VSB thinks... Giving 'surprise' Christmas presents is not necessarily the right thing to do...see below....

You have to guess what people want, most likely get it wrong and visa versa. So, as a result we all end up with things we don't really want. Backed up by stats showing that in the UK alone, 1.6BILLION pounds worth of gifts at Christmas are unwanted! What a waste of raw materials, time, money etc. Presents are fine but I'm not sure they should be 'surprise presents'.

• dewolfe says... Ahh, I think this comes down to how well you know the person! I've been given a couple of bad suprise presents, but this Christmas almost every suprise present I was given (and gave) was spot on!

• David says... All that could be abolished if everytime the press started talking about a recession, people decided the first item to drop of the shopping list was the newspaper! Tlaking of 'good' news, sales figures for November show an INCREASE over last year!
