The Latest Judgement in Society & Culture:
David wins
David is convinced... The average British policeman is incapable of making basic decisions if it deviates from their preset list of instructions from above. We recently returned from holiday to find our road closed for a fireworks procession that was due in 30 mins...
..and he wouldn't let us drive 800 yards down the road to our house. We had driven for 7 hours and had four young children in the back of the car (which we explained). He could have phoned the officer in the middle of the village, to see if the road was clear but apparently that wasn't possible. So, after 7 hours in car, we had to walk the children half a mile to get them to bed. Cars were coming OUT along the same road and we managed (surprise surprise) to walk the whole way before the procession started (including the 15 minute debate with the officer).

100% agree. David wins!
Society & Culture
dewolfe wins
dewolfe believes... That people who can't distinguish life from a video game need to get out more and live in the real world.
A woman in Cornwall is divorcing her real life husband because she caught his avatar video character cheating on her avatar video character in a virtual life computer game. She went on to say how angry and devastated she was when she found out what was going on, feeling betrayed and let down. What a bunch of Muppets!
David wins
David insists... The British are obsessed with traffic cones. We seem incapable of having a stretch of motorway without randomly sectioning off a lane or two with cones for no apparent reason and for years on end.
I've just driven through Holland, France and Belgium and not a cone in sight! I can only imagine that the head of the transport department has a massive share in the "Cones R Us" company.
VSB loses
VSB is sure... That suicide except in cases of chronic pain should not ever be made legal.
David wins
David decrees... Adverts mentioning Christmas should be banned until the 15th November, at the earliest!
It's mid October and we're starting to get Christmas adverts! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
King Henry wins
King Henry thinks... Catering for dinner parties is getting more problematic. So many people seem to have a dislike or intolerance or allergy of a different food type. Impossible.
Jeep wins
Jeep knows... A lot of people would rather go on television and humiliate themselves rather than not be on tv at all.
You only have to watch your average reality tv show to see it but there are some that really get personal and show people in a poor light and yet, still, they find people willing to be part of the programme. Just strange.
David wins
David states... That in an effort to avoid binge drinking, alcohol prices should NOT increase. They should look at other methods. I don't see why the masses should be punished for the few.
PrettyPolly wins
PrettyPolly believes... It is insane that a woman getting divorced has been awarded £50,000 a year maintenance for her horses.
I feel sorry for her husband. He works full-time in the city, she works part-time, they have no kids. They had been married for 11 years. She's spent her time riding her 3 horses and participating in eventing (more fun than work - her husband would probably have liked a life like that!. Oh yes, she did also look after his one horse. And now he has to pay £50,000 a year maintenance for her 3 horses. She should start living in the real world, get a full-time job, and only keep on the horses she can afford.
David loses
David reckons... If you could take three days off per week, Wednesday would be the additional day to take.
Choose Monday and Tuesday becomes the effective Monday. It'd be nice to have a three day weekend but I reckon that having Wednesdays off, so you never worked more than 2 days in a row, would lead to a much more relaxed life.
dewolfe draws
dewolfe believes... That cyclists should be forced to obey the same traffic laws as other motorists.
So often I see them running red lights, swerving on and of the road, onto pavements and back onto the road. In fairness to cyclists, they should be provided with more cycle lanes but if they're on the road, they should have to abide by the laws of the road. They should have license plates, correct head gear and more importantly, well maintained bicycles with working lights.

i was stuck in a traffic jam for 25 mins the other day at rush hour whilst the police blocked the entrance to a roundaboat. why so that a convoy of 3 cars and a landrover could have a clear run.surely a few mins would have been enough but no traffic caos for miles instead

Complain. That one sounds like an exception to the more considerate interactions I've had. Bad day or not, he was being extremily inconsiderate. Or just wait for bad Karma...

If coppers had any brains they'd be traffic wardens

Biff, you've touched another important point....who deals with police complaints? The police. Does any form of self governing work.....er....no. We thought about it but I think the standard response letter would just wind us up some more!

Biff says...
Sounds ludicrous to me. I hope you make a complaint.

Complete and utter jobsworth. You know I reckon he was out on a power trip. Sad sad saddo.

David says...
I have no idea what the police are paid but if this is in any way indicative of their abilities, they are grossly over paid.

Cindarella says...
It was riduculous. And then as we were walking down the road in the dark with kids and their duvets, I saw PC Plod shining his torch all over our car, clearly looking for something that he could bust us for!!! Talk about small minded. Respect for police just went out the window.
