David thinks... This Labour government has convinced people that 'government spending' is inherently a good thing. No mention of spend efficiency needed. They use it as an attack on the tories - "the tories will reduce spending" as if that's inherently a bad thing

Now, in my experience it's extremely easy to SPEND money but to do so with maximum efficiency and only in areas that need it is another matter (though not as difficult as this government implies by its actions). I think people forget that it is THEIR money that the government is spending and so it should be done with great care. If you buy something with someone elses money, you take EXTRA care that you get really good VFM. That simply dosen't seem to be the case with this government, lead by the centurie's worst chancellor (Brown - don't kid yourselves, he's still the chancellor too)

balski insists... That all governments should be pumping billions into Green research (through government labs or non profit set ups)

and not just leaving it to private enterprise to do such R&D - the environment is going to be such a problem for future generations - we need to come up with solutions fast

dewolfe believes... That if the BNP have to keep their members secret, then they know that they're narrow minded and racist and that their views belong back in the medieval ages.

Why else would they have to be kept secret - they obviously know they're doing something wrong. If you're scared or ashamed to say that you belong to the BNP party, then you should re evaluate your bigoted views!

David says... The political and legal fight should be against the BNP as a party. If we allow ourselves to be swayed in law by people like this, then we lessen the core values of freedom and protection of our society, and that would be a tragedy.

David says... I 'm not sure anyone disagrees with the statement per se but the potentially implied take on the relaxing of the position from a legal point of the leak of that list. They do have a right to privacy under the law and that that should be treated as no differently because of their abhorrent views.

balski says... I can understand if the individuals are afraid of a minority of people who have violent tendencies because of opposing views etc, but their worry here is that the general public popoulation will take action against thyeir members such as firing them etc.

mat says... i agree with david i detest what they stand for but they have to be treated as if they were normal people. If i want to join any LEGAL group and keep my membership secret then that has to be my right. Its the old quote about detesting what you say but fighting for your right to say it

Barry believes... The calibre of MPs of all parties has been declining for years because they do not enter Parliament with any real experience. Nobody should be selected to run for Parliament until they are 40 and can prove that they have something solid to offer.

Barry is convinced... Gordon Brown and Alastair Darling are behaving irresponsibly and irrationally .

They offered loans to help the banks but charged an exhorbitant 12% interest. Having made them pay 12% the government then insisted that they pass the full 1.5% bank rate cut on to small businesses and people needing mortgages. They did not offer to reduce the 12% and so they deliberately reduced the banks profitability and thus their security still further. Then Gordon Brown claims to be leading the rest of the world out of the crisis. Safe in his hands? I do not think so.

Graham says... I don't believe he won because he is black (or in spite of it). He won because he ran a better campaign and demonstrated himself to have intelligence, integrity, inspiration and leadership qualities... and he is in no way connected to George Bush.

He's simply not going to be able to deliver much change in the short or even medium term. Politics is a slow game.

Biff says... Truly historical moment, however what he does from January onwards will be the real story. Margaret Thatcher becoming the first British female PM was a huge, but how many women are proud of her now ? What Obama does during his term(s) will determine whether he makes black people proud.
