Sure, the women go through some pain but the bloke has ot see all that ickyness and has to endure the transitional phase when the woman just goes bananas. And, at least the woman has something to concentrate on, the man just has to endure a strange mix of helplessness, fear and boredom.

Monsta says... When our son was born I tried to help out but thankfully had an understanding boss who left me asleep when she found me at 2pm in my office. Mrs can sleep in the day. Mr can help out at weekends.

Cindarella says... I feel sorry for todays dads. They are expected to bring in the money and be "hands on" dad all the time. They can't do everything. Each has their own role. Mrs NTY - your job is to look after the baby day and night during the week. Mr NTY - you earn the money but help out at weekends.

Matola says... Sorry Mrs NTY I disagree. I assume ur not breastfeeding (obviously husband really cant help with that). Nights are your job I'm afraid, your daytimes are more flexible. Take naps whilst you can, slow down on the housework, go to bed early, if you are not breastfeeding, Mr NTY can do that last feed.

Biff says... I have to agree completely with Mr NTY here. Babies sleep during the day and so Mrs NTY also has this opportunity to rest, whereas Mr NTY doesn't. Weekends should be joint responsibility. Allowances need to be made for extreme conditions eg. if either partner or the baby is sick.

If one partner has given up work to look after kids, they must be entitled to an equal say in spending - otherwise there is no recognition of the vital work they are doing which allows the other partner to commit fully to a job and maximise earnings. Mind you, being a cat I don't earn much.

dewolfe says... I think joint accounts are absolutely fine, but, like everyone else has said, it comes down to being sensible about the money coming in. Families are meant to be one unity so if both parties know what's coming in, the security of the job etc, -then i don't see why it wouldn't work.

But problems can arise if one or other (and it is not always the woman) are a big spender and just don't worry about money. Then the sensible one definitely needs to take control, and if that means an allowance then so be it.
